About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and manage electrical engineering projects from concept through to completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage electrical engineering projects from concept through to completion
  • Develop and review detailed electrical designs, specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements
  • Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, bill of quantities, and tender documentation
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, and CAD Operators
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Conduct design reviews and ensure engineering quality and accuracy
  • Support project scoping, budgeting, tender evaluations, and contract administration
  • Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost-effective engineering solutions
  • Assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support when required

Requirements

  • BEng or BTech Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional registration with ECSA as Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech Eng. (highly advantageous)
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in electrical engineering design and project execution
  • Proven experience within mining, industrial, or heavy engineering environments
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects
  • Strong exposure to industrial plant design and electrical infrastructure projects

Qualifications

  • Formal education/certifications: BEng or BTech Degree in Electrical Engineering; Professional registration with ECSA as Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech Eng.

About the Role

The Senior Electrical Engineer position is a dual role, combining managerial and technical responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating professional electrical designs to meet client-specific requirements while ensuring compliance with various legal standards in the electrical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control the electrical engineering department and all associated activities.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to Iritron quality systems and safety standards.
  • Monitor and support the electrical design engineering team and apply best practices.
  • Plan and align designs to business strategies and objectives to ensure effective customer service.
  • Review and sign off detailed designs according to applicable standards and scope of works.
  • Liaise with clients pertaining to design specifications and requirements to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Prepare scope of work, specifications, bill of quantities, and tender documents in line with the client’s needs and requirements.
  • Compile further information for the manufacturing and software engineering phases of the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering (NQF level 8)
  • Professional Engineer registration (Pr. Eng in Electrical Engineering)
  • At least 10 years of operational and design experience, including exposure to relevant design programs.
  • Familiarity with international electrical and instrumentation specifications and standards (SANS).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the MHS Act and OHS Act.
