About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an Elementary Montessori Internship Pathway candidate in Somerset West. This opportunity will provide you with hands-on experience in supporting a Montessori Elementary classroom environment for learners aged 6–12 years, while also fostering your understanding of child-led learning and Montessori principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operations of a Montessori Elementary classroom environment for learners aged 6–12 years.
- Observe, guide and assist learners within both Lower Elementary (ages 6–9 | Grade 1–3 equivalent) and Upper Elementary (ages 9–12 | Grade 4–6 equivalent) learning environments.
- Assist in the preparation, organisation and maintenance of Montessori learning materials and the prepared classroom environment.
- Encourage and support learners in developing independence, curiosity and critical thinking through child-led learning experiences.
- Work collaboratively with experienced educators and benefit from ongoing mentorship and guidance.
- Provide support during classroom activities, learning presentations and learner supervision where required.
- Engage in continuous professional development and training to deepen understanding of Montessori educational practices.
- Contribute positively to the classroom culture and the broader school community by fostering a respectful and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
- Qualification: BEd (Foundation Phase or Intermediate Phase) or PGCE.
- Availability: Able to commit to the programme from April 2026 – September 2027.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children aged 6–12 years (Montessori exposure advantageous).
- Registration: Valid SACE registration.
- Compliance: Valid police clearance certificate.
- Educational Approach: Interest in child-led learning and Montessori principles.
