About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Solar PV Designer / Draughtsman / Engineer with expertise in commercial solar PV systems to join our team in Somerset West. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing concept, detailed, and as-built designs for commercial solar PV systems, ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Develop concept, detailed, and as-built designs for commercial solar PV systems
Produce AC and DC layouts, string configurations, inverter placement, and equipment schedules
Prepare and update Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and general arrangement drawings
Size PV arrays, inverters, protection devices, and associated equipment
Perform yield and performance modelling using tools such as HelioScope, PVsyst, or equivalent
Support energy yield assumptions and design optimization
Assist with shading analysis and layout optimization
Ensure designs comply with NRS 097-2-1, SANS standards, municipal SSEG requirements, and utility guidelines
Prepare technical documentation for municipal SSEG submissions, engineering sign-off, and construction packs
Provide technical support to project managers during construction and commissioning
Review site photos and redline drawings to confirm as-built accuracy

Requirements

Qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Draughting, or a related field
Proven experience in commercial and industrial solar PV design
Strong understanding of grid-tied PV systems, SSEG processes in South Africa, and NRS/SANS standards
Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential)
Experience with HelioScope, PVsyst, or similar software (advantageous)

Salary & Benefits

R25 000.00 – R30 000.00 per annum, depending on experience
