About the Role
The Faculty of Education at Nelson Mandela University invites applications for an Associate Lecturer position in English Home Language Literacy and English as an Additional Language. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic excellence of the faculty by teaching Foundation Phase students.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver English Home Language Literacy and English Additional Language modules at a Foundation Phase level.
• Design course curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment strategies that promote active learning and student engagement.
• Conduct research regarding English language teaching or related fields, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences.
• Participate in academic administration, including serving on faculty committees, contributing to curriculum development, and assisting with accreditation processes.
• Engage in professional development activities to stay abreast of advancements in English language teaching, educational pedagogy, and research methodologies.
• Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary research and educational initiatives.
• Represent the department and the faculty at academic conferences, workshops, and public events.
• Contribute to community outreach programs and initiatives that promote the use of English language in local and regional communities.
Requirements
• At least an Honours degree in Education or English. A Masters in Education or English will be an added advantage.
• An undergraduate qualification in Foundation Phase Education
• At least two-years’ experience in teaching Foundation Phase English Home Language Literacy and or English Additional Language in the school context.
• Experience in teaching in a Higher Education context.
• Sound disciplinary and content knowledge of English Home Language Literacy and English Additional Language.
• Sound knowledge of various techniques for teaching English Home Language Literacy and English Additional Language.
