About the Role

We are seeking a robust and intuitive leader to take the helm of the guiding department at an established 5 star safari property. As a relationship builder by nature, you will mentor a dedicated team of guides, fostering a culture of service excellence and deep-rooted passion for the industry. This role is designed for a collaborative, hands-on individual who is committed to sustainability and thrives in a high-standard, Big 5 environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing sound leadership in the guiding department to ensure that all guests have an exceptional and value added safari experience during all game drives
  • Ensuring all field guide department drive duties are met that fully comply with legislation pertaining to FGASA, NDT, and the rules that are relevant
  • Ensure the company’s rules and culture is maintained in the department
  • Continuously upskill and develop the field guides
  • Overseeing daily and weekly fleet inspections
  • Performance management and discipline of staff
  • Prepare budgets and provide all relevant information to the GM pertaining to stock takes, budgets, fleet maintenance, vehicle safety audits etc.

Requirements

  • 2 – 4 years Assistant Head Guide / Head Guide experience in a large 5 star establishment within a Big 5 environment
  • FGASA NQF 4 / Higher
  • NDT registered
  • First Aid
  • ARH & 117705, 119651 & 123519 competencies
  • Valid drivers licence and PrDP Trails Guide / VPDA qualification, or in progress

Qualifications

  • Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.)

Salary & Benefits

Approximately R22, 500.00 live in; PLUS – Accommodation (partly/basically furnished) & own bathroom; 2 meals per day from the staff canteen; Provident fund – 100% coverage by the company; Medical Aid membership is a compulsory part of the package, offering employees the security of ongoing cover, with the full contribution payable by the employee; Uniform and laundry thereof; Complimentary staff shuttle service is provided for shift transport, with pick-up before each shift and drop-off after each shift for staff living within approximately 20 km of the property in surrounding local communities.

Work Cycle
