About the Role
The Senior Field Engineer (Instrumentation) role is based in Mogalakwena Mine, Mokopane, South Africa. This 2.13.3.1 appointment requires a high degree of competence in instrumentation used in highly automated plants. The successful candidate will provide field engineering services to customers in the mining, metals, and heavy industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Frequently communicates and interfaces with customers’ engineering and technical teams to discuss Company Engineering capabilities, customer applications/requirements, and coordinate project activities.
- Possesses a broad knowledge of controls, power conversion, automation, data analytics, and their application to the industries, equipment, and customers served by the Company.
- Demonstrates strong project management independently or in cooperation with others to collect information for cost estimates, labor estimates, contingency plans, materials, and supply chain lead times, prioritization, and resource availability.
- Proficiently collects voice of the customer intelligence and translates it into actionable plans and results.
- Stays up-to-date on current technologies in the industry as well as emerging technologies and trends.
- Researches and conducts competitive analysis, including pricing and product offerings, of solutions provided by key competitors and customers in the local market.
- Assists in overall product strategies and product roadmaps based on local markets.
- Owns and develops product requirements/enhancements/functional specifications by working with customers, field service engineering, sales, and other associated product stakeholders.
- Demonstrates proficiency in problem-solving, RCA, and project management principles from training and experience.
- Develops and maintains local service engineering processes and standards.
- Prioritizes respective engineering groups’ projects and manages category pipeline.
- Actively assists in promoting the Company and the Company Service Engineering, and selling to customers, partners, and others.
- Plays a critical role in defining the overall product and growth strategy by partnering with Business Development and Product Management.
- Coordinates and executes new product introductions with other functional departments through Stage Gate Process and/or the Company’s commercialization process.
- Demonstrates proficiency in planning and managing departmental budgets and project costs.
- Executes work in effective and efficient ways to best serve customers and attain corporate regional and goals.
- Serves as key contact for Corporate R&D teams, globally.
- Appreciates and demonstrates the Company’s Core Values and Principles, and Corporate Mission.
Requirements
- Instrumentation/Electrical Trade Test.
- 3 years relevant management experience.
- Project management experience.
- Extensive and up-to-date knowledge in control systems, Field instruments & drives.
- Knowledge and experience in industrial and/or machine control theory.
- Experience with mining machine systems applications including but not limited to electric mining shovels, draglines, haul trucks, rotary blast hole drills, and hydraulic excavators.
- Demonstrated experience in managing the product lifecycle of systems and products.
- Demonstrated success with the ability to identify key customer requirements and translate them into detailed product specifications for multi-generational products.
- Direct experience in formulating, producing, and implementing product roadmaps.
- Good business acumen and ability to cascade business goals to engineering objectives.
Qualifications
- Registered as Professional Engineer with ECSA or
- Registered as Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA is advantageous.
