About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Underground Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract basis. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of underground mechanical installations, equipment, and maintenance activities. With your expertise in mine health and safety regulations and proven experience with underground mobile and fixed mechanical equipment, you will play a critical role in driving production targets while maintaining a culture of safety, accountability, and operational discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all underground mechanical installations, equipment, and maintenance activities comply with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and site standards.
- Provide mechanical engineering support to achieve safe and sustainable production targets.
- Manage and optimise planned maintenance systems to improve equipment availability and reliability.
- Investigate mechanical failures, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct regular underground inspections to identify risks, defects, and non-compliance.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, standards, and technical documentation.
- Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and life-of-asset strategies.
- Manage contractor performance and ensure work is executed safely and to specification.
- Compile engineering reports, risk assessments, and performance data for management review.
Requirements
- BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years underground mining experience
- Proven experience with underground mobile and fixed mechanical equipment.
- Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and relevant regulations.
- Experience in maintenance management, equipment reliability, and breakdown analysis.
