About the Role
The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for leading process design packages for water and wastewater treatment projects, ensuring accurate and efficient solutions that meet client requirements. This role requires a strong technical background in process engineering, combined with excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop complete process design packages for water and wastewater treatment projects
- Translate process requirements into clear and accurate PFDs and P&IDs
- Perform process simulations and prepare mass and energy balances
- Select and specify process equipment and prepare technical data sheets
- Execute process calculations including chemical dosing, hydraulic flow and velocity, gas generation, and treatment efficiency
- Develop process control philosophies and provide inputs to automation and control systems
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers on plant layout and equipment arrangement
- Provide process engineering support during construction, commissioning, and operational phases
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients on process-related matters
- Participate in internal and external project meetings
- Conduct pilot testing and field trials, analyse results, and optimise process designs
- Prepare technical reports and formal engineering documentation
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing of process equipment and instrumentation within WTP and WWTP projects
- Apply a proactive and preventative approach to technical problem-solving
Requirements
- BTech in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering
- BSc in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering
- 5 to 10 years’ experience in process design and implementation, preferably within the water and wastewater treatment sector
- Working knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and process engineering tools
- Solid understanding of SHE requirements and ISO or SANS standards
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s licence and South African ID
