Job Description
The Site Manager will oversee daily operations, staff performance, and client relations at assigned commercial sites. They are responsible for achieving waste diversion targets, maintaining safety and compliance standards, and ensuring financial and operational goals are met. The role requires managing equipment, reporting systems, and transportation logistics while driving continuous improvement. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential to deliver efficient site management and customer satisfaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational management
- Ensure that the service level agreement of the client is implemented and maintained.
- Assume overall responsibility for the site including night shift.
- The appointed Night Shift Supervisor will report to the Site Manager
- The Site Manager will determine all activities of the Night-Shift Supervisor
- Be responsible to arrange for the appointed Zero Waste Officer (that will also be employed at the site/s), to mutually function as “relievers” for each other and to cover the days off that will occur in a seven day week cycle.
- Oversee and be responsible for the activities of the Zero Waste Officer
- Be responsible for the achievement of waste diversion targets that will be set from time to time.
- Resolve any issues raised by the Zero Waste Officer regarding contamination or recyclable materials that have been identified in the residual waste.
- Manage the performance of all staff allocated to the site including attendance, speed, and accuracy of sorting.
- Ensure achievement of financial budgetary targets set by the Operations Manager of the site.
- Ensure correct use of all operational systems that have been provided, by all staff employed at site.
- Ensure that the necessary procurement, maintenance and utilization of all equipment and consumables needed for the site is conducted on time, as per the WastePlan procurement procedure.
- Ensure that site hygiene is maintained to agreed standards.
- Ensure that all staff on site are fully trained and operate according to stipulated safety standards.
Reporting
- Ensure that accurate data of the daily sorting activities for the various grades of recyclable material, composting material and general waste are entered into the electronic reporting system and provided to the data department daily.
- Deal with and resolve expeditiously any queries that may be raised by the data department on the reports submitted.
- Ensure that the daily zero waste audit results are captured into the electronic reporting system.
- Perform and submit such site inspections reports as may be required by the Operations Manager.
Transportation
- Arrange for collection of all recyclable material and general waste from site in a timely manner and ensure the correct use of the WastePlan purchase order system controlling the process is adhered to.
- Engage with the transport department and resolve any collection issues arising.
- Communicate with service providers and escalate any issues to the Operations Manager.
Client relations
- Strategically managing client relationships to ensure customer satisfaction by addressing problems immediately, address proposals and improving service levels; (personal visits / phone call / email)
- Meet with clients monthly to address previous and current issues, providing feedback on improvements, reporting aspects of interest (meeting minutes required)
- Provide written communication / feedback regarding client relationships to Operations Manager.
Personnel management
- Induction and training of all staff as per company policy and procedures
- Responsible for appointment of staff to comply with the SLA of the site’s as per Company policy and procedures.
- Manage appointments / working permits / asylum documents of foreigners according to company policy and procedures.
- Manage absenteeism by informing the Operations Manager and / or appoint or place relief staff where needed.
- Train and develop staff to ensure maximum productivity and profit.
- Disciplinary actions: executed as per the company disciplinary policies and procedures.
- Prepare a weekly report on working hours, absenteeism and leave for payroll and ensure that all numbers are accurate.

- KPI report to check profitability (due before the 10th of every month)
- Appointments and resignations report (due before the 27th of every month)
- Asset register (update before the 1st of every month)
Other Administrative duties
- Month end payroll to be completed as per the monthly deadline
- Industrial relations (IR) reports with disciplinary actions taken or to be taken
- Provide the correct information to the data department for the latter to set up a new account on the reporting platform and verify all company information
- Scan and upload all client and employee documentation on Insync
SHEQ responsibilities
- Ensure that staff have the correct PPE equipment, as per company policy
- Ensure staff is trained regarding SHEQ regulations, policies and procedures of WastePlan per site
- Ensure that the SHEQ file is updated and correct
- Ensure that all staff have been trained on dangerous equipment / goods and products
- Manage incidents and accidents as per company policy and procedures
- Responsible to ensure that the site comply with the SHEQ policies of WastePlan and the client
- Responsible to uphold the SHEQ initiatives as set out in the company SHEQ policy.
REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12
- Experience in the waste management or recycling industry
- Valid driver’s license
- Superior management skills
- 2 years’ relevant working experience
