Job Summary

Midrand, South Africa | Regional role (South Africa, Botswana & Zambia) Were looking for a strategic yet hands-on HR Manager to shape and grow our people function across three countries. Youll support a workforce of 1,200, build strong union relationships, and lead initiatives that drive culture, compliance, and performance. Whats in it for you? What were looking for: Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or related field. 5 years of HR experience, at least 2 of which were in a management position. Strong knowledge of labour laws, union dynamics and dispute resolution. Sound knowledge of Sage 300. Ability to implement systems and procedures. Experience to mining / motor industry is advantageous. Exposure to Zambia / Botswana cross-border HR/IR operations is a huge plus. In this pivotal role, youll shape the entire employee experience from attracting top talent to nurturing a culture of performance, engagement, and inclusion. Youll partner directly with leadership and teams to align people strategies with our bold mission: making the world a safer place. As a HR Manager , you will be responsible for the following: Oversee the end-to-end HR lifecycle , including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance reviews, and offboarding Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with both organisational culture and legal requirements Drive employee engagement initiatives , foster open internal communication, and promote overall team wellbeing Provide strategic support to managers on employee development, coaching , and performance management Manage compensation processes , including payroll coordination, benefits administration, and leave management Ensure full compliance with South African labour laws , BEE standards, and internal governance policies Manage HR systems and people data , delivering insightful analytics to inform decision-making Collaborate with senior leadership on organisational design, culture strategy , and workforce planning Qualifications and Skills: A Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or a relevant discipline At least 5 years of hands-on experience in an HR Manager or HR Generalist role In-depth understanding of South African labour legislation and HR compliance standards Proven strengths in communication, conflict resolution, and employee coaching A people-centric approach with the ability to blend empathy with strategic decision-making Comfortable working with HRIS platforms and proficient in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace Experience supporting HR functions in remote or hybrid work settings is advantageous

Job Summary

Minimum requirements for the role: Must have a Bachelors Degree in HR or Business Administration Minimum 5 years HR Management experience Previous experience within a manufacturing environment would be a great advantage Proven organizational, planning and prioritization skills to ensure proper and timely completion of projects In depth knowledge and experience in HR laws, compliance, employee relations and conducting investigations Experience leading HR teams and collaborating with other business functions to implement change activities that drive innovation, enhance employee relations, operational excellence, and competitive advantage Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving and conflict resolution skills Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information Experience with HR software (Sage X3, People, Workday) is essential The successful candidate will be responsible for: Overseeing the daily activities of the HR department, while designing, monitoring, and improving HR processes, policies, and technologies to enhance operational efficiency in alignment with company objectives. Providing HR-related reports and analytics to leadership on employee performance, staff turnover, productivity, and other HR metrics. Reporting on labour-related trends and developments. Preparing and implementing HR budgets. Supporting and facilitating the leadership team with culture initiatives to foster an inclusive and high-performance culture, aligned to the companys values and winning mindsets. Implementing employee engagement initiatives to promote job satisfaction, employee wellbeing, and retention. Reviewing job descriptions and organizational structures to ensure accuracy and relevance. Assisting in planning related to workforce needs, succession planning, talent development, and organizational structure. Conducting routine job postings, candidate screenings, interviews, background checks, and issuing job offers. Supporting line managers throughout the recruitment process. Implementing appropriate approval processes for the filling of vacancies. Facilitating onboarding and offboarding processes. Leading the employee experience from onboarding to offboarding, including communicating employee benefits, identifying improvement opportunities, conducting exit interviews, and analyzing relevant data. Supporting line management in employee-related matters, including talent management, performance management, and disciplinary procedures. Implementing and maintaining performance management processes, including reviews, feedback, and objective setting aligned with company goals. Working with line managers to identify training and development needs. Monitoring employee progress and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Acting as the primary contact for union engagement, building strong relationships with all stakeholders. Managing employee changes and processes impacting payroll functionality. Administering employee benefits programs including medical aid, retirement funds, and wellness initiatives. Conducting salary benchmarking and ensuring internal alignment with job gradings. Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance on all employee-related legislation (Labour Act, Employment Equity Act, etc.). Maintaining accurate HR records and documentation, including employee files and compliance forms. Advising leadership on legal matters related to employee rights, terminations, and workplace policies. Advising leadership on legislative changes and assessing potential business impacts. JOB DESCRIPTION: Job Title: HR Manager Employment Type: Permanent Work Location: Johannesburg/Capetown DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish the HR Department: Build the HR function from scratch, including systems, processes, tools, and reporting structures across all locations. Policy Development & Implementation: Draft, implement, and communicate company-wide HR policies, procedures, and best practices in alignment with labour legislation and business needs. Labour Relations & CCMA Representation: Lead all labour relations efforts, including handling disciplinary processes, grievances, and dispute resolution. Represent the company at the CCMA and other regulatory bodies. Talent Management: Oversee recruitment, onboarding, employee development, performance management, and succession planning across multiple sites. Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all labour laws and regulations. Conduct regular HR audits and risk assessments to identify gaps and ensure legal and operational alignment. Employee Engagement & Communication: Foster a positive working environment through proactive communication, engagement initiatives, and alignment of HR strategy with company culture. Multi-Site Operations: Manage HR functions and provide support across all business units in Johannesburg, Newcastle, Cape Town, and Limpopo, ensuring consistency and adaptability to local workforce needs. SOPS: Develop and implement HR Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, training & development, and offboarding. End To End Recruitment: Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including workforce planning, job profiling, sourcing, interviewing, offer management, onboarding, and induction. REQUIRED SKILLS: Proven experience as a generalist HR Manager, preferably in a start-up or multi-site environment. In-depth knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practices. Strong CCMA experience and the ability to represent the company independently in all labour-related matters. Demonstrated ability to set up an HR department independently and work without immediate support Experience in managing a diverse workforce, including executives, managers, and blue-collar employees. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Willingness to travel between sites as needed. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Diploma or certification in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field is preferred. Bachelors degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, or related field (essential). Postgraduate diploma or certification in Labour Relations or Industrial Law (advantageous). Minimum 5 years of HR experience, with at least 3 years in a senior HR role. PACKAGE & REMUNERATION: Compensation will be determined based on qualifications, applicable experience, and previous earnings.
