Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Business Development & Strategy Identify, develop, and pursue new business opportunities within the public sector. Develop and implement strategies to grow revenue and market share. Conduct market research to stay informed on government priorities, projects, and procurement trends. Client Relationship Management Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in government departments, municipalities, and public institutions. Serve as the primary point of contact for public sector clients. Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and foster long-term partnerships. Tender & Proposal Management Monitor public sector tenders, requests for proposals (RFPs), and bids. Coordinate preparation and submission of tender documents in compliance with procurement regulations. Collaborate with internal teams to develop competitive proposals and pricing strategies. Contract Negotiation & Management Negotiate terms and conditions with public sector clients. Monitor contract performance to ensure delivery against agreed commitments. Reporting & Performance Tracking Track business development activities, pipeline, and performance metrics. Provide regular reports to senior management on opportunities, risks, and achievements. Continuously evaluate and improve business development processes. Requirements: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Administration, or related field. Minimum 5 years experience in business development, sales, or account management, preferably within the public sector. In-depth knowledge of public sector procurement processes, regulations, and tender management. Strong relationship management and networking skills. Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. Strategic thinker with a results-driven approach and the ability to work independently. Desirable: Experience working with government departments, municipalities, or public institutions in South Africa. Knowledge of BEE compliance and reporting.

About the Role

We are a leading service provider seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Business Development Manager (BDM) to lead our Johannesburg-based sales operation. This is a critical leadership role built for high-accountability professionals who can drive success through direct engagement and intensive performance coaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain a system of granular, real-time activity tracking for 10 Sales Consultants across various branches, ensuring maximum effort, accountability, and productivity at all times.
  • Full ownership of the collective sales pipeline, from strategic lead generation for services to final deal closure, ensuring consistent pipeline health and accurate forecasting.
  • Recruit, onboard, and manage a team of 10 Sales Consultants, providing on-the-spot coaching, motivation, and constructive feedback to drive immediate performance improvements.
  • Exceed demanding weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales targets for the services portfolio.
  • Compile detailed performance reports and leverage data to proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks, implementing corrective actions instantly.
  • Ensure seamless collaboration and standardized, high-quality sales processes across all managed branches.

Requirements

  • Proven Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a sales team, ideally in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Services Sales Expertise: A demonstrable track record of success selling services (not products) to the corporate / business to business consumer market.
  • High Accountability: An unwavering commitment to direct performance engagement and holding team members accountable for targets and activities on a frequent basis.
  • Entrepreneurial Drive: The motivation and discipline required to maximize success within a salary-plus-commission compensation structure.

  • Grade 12 or equivalent

About the Role

The Business Development Manager will play a crucial role in driving sales growth and expanding our client base within the Johannesburg market.
