About the Role
In a high-stakes mainframe environment, we are seeking an experienced Adabas developer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our legacy Natural/Adabas application systems, ensuring they remain stable, performant, and reliable. We require someone who can interpret complex requirements, design robust solutions, and deliver clean code that meets the demands of a mission-critical operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain Natural/Adabas application systems.
- Conduct impact assessments, feasibility studies, and requirements analysis.
- Design system applications, interfaces, and supporting components.
- Code, test, debug, and implement mainframe program modules.
- Maintain and upgrade existing systems to ensure performance and stability.
- Adhere to development standards, methods, and change control processes.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation and user guides.
- Conduct technical investigations and produce remediation/action plans.
- Provide technical support to users and internal teams.
- Participate in system integration, deployment, and production readiness activities.
- Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers.
- Assist in mapping business processes and information flows to support strategic objectives.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and technical teams.
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years hands-on Natural/Adabas development experience.
- Proven background in BATCH and Online processing.
- Ability to design, build, deploy, and maintain mainframe applications at scale.
- Experience conducting code reviews and providing guidance to junior developers.
- Strong track record in large-scale enterprise environments.
Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12)
- IT-related diploma or degree advantageous
