Job Description

About the Role

Our Client, a highly respected international insurance group operating in various territories throughout Africa, is seeking an experienced Senior Corporate and Commercial Underwriter to join their team based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). As a senior member of the underwriting team, you will be responsible for writing business emanating from the DRC, working to achieve sustainable, profitable targets with a strong emphasis on service. You will act as lead underwriter across specialist products and use your client-facing market presence to trade with brokers, risk managers, and international insurers and reinsurers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiating and pricing underwriting risks
  • Renewal of business
  • Negotiate renewals with Brokers / Clients / Reinsurers
  • Raising debits and credits
  • Assist with Credit Control
  • Liaison / negotiation with Reinsurers on Facultative business and obtaining quotations and placement of Reinsurance.
  • Liaison with Brokers / Clients
  • Bulk business negotiations with Brokers or Corporate Clients
  • Requesting and implementing and monitoring of surveys
  • Rating and structuring of Corporate Clients
  • Negotiating tender documents
  • Negotiate and pricing global program business and arranging of Reinsurance or Co-insurance support
  • Developing and arranging specialized covers and risks
  • Smoothly managing your division on a day to day basis.
  • Screening and distribution of incoming mail.
  • Ensure accuracy of outgoing documentation is up to company standards.
  • Facilitating the timeous renewal of policies.
  • Assisting and overseeing the running of the credit control department.
  • Liaising and building relationships with Brokers / Clients.
  • Liaising with and assisting the Global Accounts & RI departments at Head Office with queries on all Global Accounts and re-insurance placements.
  • Facilitate and assist with queries from the Underwriting, Claims, Marketing, re-insurance and accounts departments.
  • Assist with arranging facultative re-insurance when required.
  • Negotiate renewals with Brokers / Clients / Re-insurers.
  • Provide assistance to HR with new appointments and interviews.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring administration processes to ensure efficient policy administration.
  • Monitoring and Assisting with commission payments to Brokers and agents.
  • Monitoring and Assisting with all outgoing re-insurance payments.
  • Responsible for monthly reporting on underwriting, budgets, Loss ratios and the like to the Executive Committee management meetings.
  • Assist with commission negotiations.

Requirements
