About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our team in Johannesburg, where you will play a critical role in driving business growth through data-driven insights. As a key member of our analytics team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing predictive models, analyzing complex datasets, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and correlations
  • Develop, implement, and validate machine learning algorithms and statistical models
  • Build and operationalise predictive models to generate actionable insights
  • Design and support reporting and analytics platforms
  • Develop BI solutions using SQL, ETL scripting, and Microsoft BI tools
  • Build scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured data
  • Automate recurring data and reporting processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including actuaries, underwriters, and analysts
  • Translate business requirements into analytical and data science solutions
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and support analytics and BI environments

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology or related industries
  • Experience: 4 years experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar analytics-focused role
  • Strong experience developing Business Intelligence solutions in mid-size or large environments
  • Extensive experience with T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics (essential)
  • Strong programming experience with Python or R (Java / C# advantageous)
  • Experience with machine learning libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts, data modelling, and experimental design
  • Experience working with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka advantageous)
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
