Role Overview
The Mechanical Foreman will be responsible for the effective supervision, coordination and execution of mechanical maintenance activities, while remaining actively involved in hands-on work. The role requires a strong technical background, sound leadership ability and close collaboration with production to ensure plant reliability and optimal utilisation.
Requirements
- Successfully completed a relevant Trade Test with N3 qualification as a minimum requirement.
- Minimum 5 years post trade test working experience.
- At least 3 years experience at supervisory level.
- Proven experience supervising mechanical fitters and their subordinates, including discipline and
performance appraisals - Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and related applications.
- Planning and coordination skills.
- Quality-focused and results-driven.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fair, consistent and professional approach.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Willingness to work across different areas as operationally required.
- First Aid Basic Certificate will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of mechanical fitters and assistants.
- Act as a working foreman, actively participating in mechanical tasks and breakdowns.
- Attend to fault finding, breakdowns and planned maintenance activities.
- Manage mechanical projects and interpret technical drawings.
- Ensure optimum utilisation of labour and time, including accurate recording by subordinates.
- Assist with mechanical fitter activities in other areas as and when required.
- Work closely and effectively with Production to minimise downtime.
- Enforce compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable legislation.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and housekeeping standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
