About the Role
Ultra Personnel is seeking a Junior Accountant to join our team in Gauteng. As a Junior Accountant, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to senior staff and assisting with various accounting tasks for multiple clients. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including financial statement preparation, payroll processing, and tax returns.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and maintain accurate accounting records for multiple clients
- Perform monthly bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations
- Capture and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare trial balances and assist with management accounts
- Assist in preparing annual financial statements in accordance with applicable standards (IFRS for SMEs)
- Process monthly payroll for multiple clients
- Process payroll journals and reconcile payroll-related accounts
- Assist with preparation and submission of VAT returns to South African Revenue Service (SARS)
- Prepare provisional and income tax returns for individuals and companies
- Assist with PAYE and other statutory submissions
- Liaise with SARS on client queries and compliance matters
- Assist with audit preparation and supporting documentation
- Maintain compliance with relevant South African regulations and deadlines
- Ensure accurate filing and record-keeping of client documents
- Communicate with clients regarding outstanding information and queries
- Provide basic financial insights and explanations where required
- Build and maintain professional client relationships
- Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems
- Support senior staff with ad hoc accounting and administrative tasks
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or studying towards)
- Must have experience within an accounting / auditing firm
- Basic understanding of South African tax legislation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, Pastel)
- Knowledge and experience in Caseware or Draftworks will be an advantage
