About the Role
Network Finance is seeking a highly skilled Primary Plant Design Engineer to join our team in the Western Cape region. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and reviewing primary plant systems for substations, ensuring compliance with IEC/SANS standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review designs for primary plant systems (HV equipment, busbars, disconnectors, earthing, etc.) for substations.
- Prepare layout drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with IEC/SANS standards, utility specifications, and project requirements.
- Collaborate with Civil, Secondary, and Protection Engineers to integrate designs.
- Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and design validation.
- Support Project Managers with technical input during tendering and project execution.
- Provide technical guidance to Junior Engineers and Drafters.
- Liaise with clients, utilities, and suppliers to ensure that the design intent is achieved.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in substation primary plant design (HV/MV).
- Strong knowledge of HV equipment and substation layout design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD / MicroStation (or similar design tools).
- Familiarity with local utility standards and IEC/SANS regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills.
Qualifications
No formal education or certifications are required for this role. However, ECSA registration (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng) or eligibility is advantageous.
