About the Role
Ikwezi Mining (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced Material Handling Supervisor to oversee the efficient operation of material handling activities, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and guidelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing standard operating procedures, collaborating with procurement teams, and driving process improvements to increase efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of material handlers, adhering to established safety procedures and guidelines
- Oversee the receiving, storing, and organizing of materials, equipment, and supplies to ensure efficient workflow and space utilization
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for material handling and inventory management
- Collaborate with procurement and purchasing teams to ensure timely delivery of materials in accordance with quality standards
- Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and reconcile discrepancies or variances
- Monitor and track material usage, consumption, and replenishment, recommending adjustments to inventory levels as needed
- Train and mentor material handling staff, providing guidance on operating equipment and following safety protocols
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as production, logistics, and quality control, to ensure smooth material flow and timely delivery to meet production schedules
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement initiatives to streamline material handling operations, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to material handling activities
Requirements
- Proven experience in material handling or inventory management with at least 3 – 5 years of supervisory experience
- Certification in material handling equipment operation (e.g., forklift certification) is highly desirable
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, such as OSHA guidelines, related to material handling and storage
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software for inventory management and data analysis
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and operate material handling equipment
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing schedules or demands
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inventory management and record-keeping
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors
