Job Description

About the Role

Our client, a reputable and established business based in Bloemfontein, is seeking a hardworking and dependable Maintenance Worker to join their team. This role is suited to a hands-on individual with strong problem-solving skills who can ensure that facilities, equipment, and general infrastructure are maintained to a high standard, supporting smooth daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine inspections and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and facilities to ensure proper functioning
Conduct basic repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems as needed
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency breakdowns
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of tools and equipment
Ensure that all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations
Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment or machinery
Monitor the condition of equipment and report potential issues to management
Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards
Collaborate with other staff to support operational efficiency and minimize downtime
Participate in preventative maintenance programs to reduce the likelihood of equipment failure

Requirements

Grade 10 or Matric certificate
Proven minimum experience of 2 years in general maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical work
Fluent in English and Afrikaans
Ability to operate and maintain basic tools and equipment safely
Good understanding of health and safety regulations in the workplace
Physically fit and able to perform manual labour
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently
Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to maintenance emergencies when required
Valid drivers license will be advantageous

Skills Required

Proficient in general maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs
Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve maintenance issues efficiently
Familiarity with the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Basic understanding of health and safety standards and procedures
Good organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Physical stamina and dexterity for manual work and lifting heavy equipment
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Effective communication skills for reporting issues and coordinating with supervisors or other departments
