About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Relations (IR) Officer to join our team in Cape Town City Centre on a 1-year fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice and support to management and employees on all matters related to conflict resolution, employee relations, and labour law compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting of notices
  • Chairing hearings
  • Client interaction where necessary
  • Attending CCMA and Council arbitrations
  • Assisting employees and management with queries and requests
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Advising management on matters involving conflict between employees
  • Performing general administrative duties, including filing
  • Improving communication, cooperation, and planning in the IR function
  • Assisting in the development of company IR protocols, operating procedures, and handbooks
  • Ensuring staff awareness of IR protocols and regulations
  • Supporting operations Managers with disciplinary action, including document preparation, investigation, and attendance at hearings
  • Providing support to IR and operational managers on CCMA, Bargaining Councils, or Labour Court referrals
  • Conducting regular internal training and updates on IR and recent case law
  • Coordinating external training as necessary
  • Managing conflict between parties and employees, including working with unions and management
  • Assisting in the induction of new staff on the code of conduct and IR protocols

Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Equivalent Qualification
  • Certificate, degree, diploma, or other relevant experience relating to HR, IR/ ER, SA Labour Legislation
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken
  • Attention to detail, systems oriented, organized, analytical
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and manage grievances
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Self-motivated, honest, high integrity, courteous, and helpful
  • Ability to function well under pressure, prioritize matters, and act on them accordingly
