About the Role
Stratogo is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Maintenance Assistant to join our team in Cape Town. As a Maintenance Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our machinery and equipment. You will be responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks, supporting breakdown repairs, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planned preventative maintenance on machinery such as:
- Conveyors
- Balers
- Shredders
- Sorting equipment
- Support breakdown repairs under supervision to minimize downtime
- Perform routine inspections and report faults or abnormalities
- Clean, lubricate, and service equipment as per maintenance schedules
- Replace basic components (belts, bearings, filters, etc.)
- Assist artisans/technicians with more complex mechanical or electrical work
- Conduct general repairs on buildings and infrastructure (e.g., doors, lighting, minor plumbing)
- Ensure work areas are clean, organized, and hazard-free
- Assist with yard and plant housekeeping
- Adhere strictly to OHS policies and procedures
- Use PPE correctly at all times
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near-misses immediately
- Participate in safety drills and toolbox talks
- Maintain tools in good working condition
- Ensure proper storage and control of maintenance tools and materials
- Assist in stock control of spare parts and consumables
- Provide support during peak operational periods if required
- Assist with machine changeovers and setup
- Work flexible hours, including shifts or overtime when needed
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Technical qualification (advantageous, e.g., N2–N3 or equivalent)
