Johannesburg North: Cost Accountant posted by Network Finance

Our client, a respected player within the FMCG manufacturing sector, is looking to appoint a Cost Accountant to join their finance team. Reporting directly to the Financial Manager, this role offers excellent exposure to operational finance, costing methodologies, and manufacturing processes while working closely with both finance and production teams.

The successful candidate will play a key role in analysing product costs, improving cost structures, supporting management accounting activities, and driving greater visibility into manufacturing performance. Key Responsibilities:

• Perform product costing analysis, including raw material and labour cost allocations.
  – Assist with Activity-Based Costing (ABC) methodologies and costing reviews.
  – Analyse production costs and identify areas for cost optimisation and efficiency improvements.
  – Support the enhancement and maintenance of costing structures and costing processes.
  – Assist with monthly management accounting activities and reporting requirements.
  – Prepare costing reports and variance analyses to support operational decision-making.
  – Work closely with production and operational teams to ensure costing accuracy.
  – Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance and costing functions.

Job Experience and Skills Required:
Education:

• BCom Degree in Accounting, Finance, Cost & Management Accounting, or a related field.
  – Progress towards a CIMA qualification will be advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience in a costing, management accounting, or finance-related role.
  – Exposure to manufacturing or FMCG environments is highly advantageous.
  – Experience with Activity-Based Costing (ABC) principles will be beneficial.
  – Understanding of raw material, labour, and production costing principles.
  – Exposure to management accounting processes and month-end activities.

Skills:

• Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  – Strong numerical and analytical ability.
  – Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  – Ability to interpret financial information and communicate findings effectively.
  – Experience working with ERP or costing systems will be advantageous.
  – Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
