Job Description
Our client is offering land?and?water tours around the V&A Waterfront.
We are seeking a dual?qualified Skipper / Driver to take full responsibility for the safe operation of the craft, the safety of up to 40 passengers, and the delivery of an exceptional customer experience.
This role is ideal for a highly responsible, safety?focused individual potentially semi?retired or seeking part?time income who enjoys interacting with passengers and working in a dynamic tourism environment.
Working Hours
Summer (1 Nov 30 Apr): Shift 1: 06h30 14h00 Shift 2: 13h00 20h00
Winter (1 May 31 Oct): Single shift: 09h00 17h00
Shifts include weekends and may vary based on operational requirements. Additional trips may be added depending on demand.
Key Responsibilities
Craft Operation & Safety
- Act as the commander of the craft, responsible for safe operation on both land and water
- Fully understand and comply with the Seahorse MkIII Operations Manual
- Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and annual safety and maintenance checks
- Ensure the craft is clean, presentable, and operational before each trip
- Perform pre?trip and post?trip inspections and complete all logbooks
- Report any defects, incidents, or maintenance issues immediately
- Assist the Tour Guide in delivering an enjoyable and engaging passenger experience
Daily Operations
- Collect the craft from the overnight garage when on first shift
- Park and prepare the craft at the Kiosk area
- Drive scheduled trips as per the daily roster
- Complete trip logs, incident reports, and operational documentation
- Hand over the craft to the next Skipper/Driver or return it to the garage at end of day
- Refuel, secure, and lock up the craft and facilities when required
Compliance & Training
- Attend mandatory refresher courses (fire safety, first aid, crowd management, etc.)
- Maintain all required certifications and regulatory compliance
- Adhere to strict zero?tolerance policies regarding alcohol or substance use
- Participate in random substance testing as required
General Support
- Assist with reasonable operational tasks outside the core job description when needed
- Support the team in maintaining a safe, professional, and customer?focused environment
Minimum Requirements
Mandatory Dual Qualifications
- Road: Code C / C10 Heavy Duty Drivers Licence + PDP
- Water: Category R Skipper Certificate (>9m) with Passenger Endorsement
- Ability to obtain a Port Exemption Certificate for Cape Town Harbour
Advantageous Certifications
- First Aid Crowd Management Firefighting & Safety Technical/mechanical aptitude
