Job Description
Our client is looking for a dedicated Technical Manager / Line Maintenance Manager to join their team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, experience in managing production line equipment, and a proactive approach to ensuring optimal equipment performance and minimal downtime. This role is crucial to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency while managing a team of maintenance professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and manage the maintenance schedule for all machinery and equipment.
- Continuously monitor and improve maintenance processes and staff performance for enhanced efficiency.
- Schedule and execute periodic and preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Develop and implement cost-effective maintenance programs and schedules.
- Conduct daily maintenance activities and ensure emergency troubleshooting support is readily available.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards for all electrical equipment and identify opportunities for process optimization.
- Perform daily plant inspections to identify issues and coordinate necessary repairs or overhauls.
- Plan equipment downtime with production management to minimize disruptions and equipment damage.
- Manage and maintain an accurate asset register for all machinery and equipment within the plant.
- Ensure proper labeling and record-keeping of all equipment.
- Inspect and maintain plant equipment to ensure frequent and effective maintenance.
- Forecast equipment needs and manage timely repairs or replacements.
- Operate machinery in line with standard operating procedures and ensure safe practices are followed.
- Manage the ordering, storing, and inventory of spare parts and equipment.
- Implement, maintain, and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
- Ensure all certificates of compliance are up-to-date in line with relevant legislation.
- Identify and address unsafe practices and maintain housekeeping standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental procedures.
- Oversee external service providers, contractors, and visitors to ensure smooth maintenance operations.
- Participate in production meetings to support machinery and equipment efficiency.
- Manage preventive maintenance programs to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Accurately maintain and report records, including repairs, downtime, maintenance schedules, and inventory of tools and spare parts.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a technical leadership role, preferably within a soft drinks, beverage, or food manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on expertise with production line equipment such as blow molders, fillers, auto packers, and palletizers.
- In-depth knowledge of modern maintenance techniques and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute projects, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Analytical and reporting skills with the ability to devise and implement best practices for systems and documentation.
- Technical qualifications or certifications in electrical or mechanical engineering will be an advantage.
