About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our well-established fine dining restaurant group in Cape Town CBD. As second-in-command of the kitchen, you will play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of quality and consistency across every service. With a strong leadership presence and technical skills, you will support our Head Chef in daily operations, mentor junior chefs, and contribute to menu development.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the Head Chef in the daily running of the kitchen
- Leading the team and maintaining standards during service in the Head Chefs absence
- Overseeing prep quality, mise en place, and section readiness before each service
- Training, mentoring, and developing junior and commis chefs
- Assisting with menu development, recipe testing, and plating refinement
- Managing stock, minimising waste, and contributing to food cost control
- Ensuring full compliance with health, hygiene, and food safety standards
Requirements
- Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 1 to 2 years at Sous Chef level
- Fine dining or high-end restaurant background is strongly preferred
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to hold a kitchen together under pressure
- Solid technical skills across multiple sections
- A detail-oriented approach to food quality, presentation, and consistency
Qualifications
- Culinary qualification (e.g. Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality or related field) preferred
