About the Role

Hire Resolve’s client is seeking a SQL Database Administrator to join their team in Durban. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and optimal performance of database systems hosted on Windows platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) on Windows servers, including Oracle, My-SQL and Postgress.
Monitor and optimize database performance, including query tuning and indexing.
Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
Configure and enforce database security policies and access controls.
Monitor for security vulnerabilities and apply patches or updates as needed.
Ensure databases comply with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, POPIA, HIPAA, etc).
Continuously monitor database performance using tools and techniques to identify and address performance bottlenecks.
Optimize database queries and configurations to enhance efficiency and speed.
Provide technical support and resolve database-related issues reported by users or identified through monitoring tools.
Troubleshoot and resolve database errors, connectivity issues, and performance problems.
Develop and maintain scripts for database maintenance, automation, and data migration tasks.
Ensure data integrity and consistency across database systems.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Generate and review reports on database performance, security, and usage.
Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to support database-related needs and projects.
Provide training and support to end-users regarding database usage and best practices.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, databases and related technologies.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, Oracle Database Administrator) are advantageous.
Proven experience as a Database Administrator, particularly in a Windows environment.
Proficiency with database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
Experience with database performance tuning, backup, and recovery.
Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or SQL.
Exposure to cloud technologies (e.g., AWS & Azure).
