Job Title: Quality Inspector (Engineering)
Report to: Operations
Seniority Level: Mid Career (4 – 6 yrs exp)
Type: Temp
Job Purpose:
To ensure that all manufactured, machined, fabricated, and assembled engineering components meet required quality standards, customer specifications, and relevant industry codes. The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing inspections, identifying non-conformances, and supporting continuous improvement in the production process.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Inspection & Quality Control
- Conduct incoming, in-process, and final inspections on engineering components.
- Inspect machined parts, fabricated items, welded assemblies, and finished products according to drawings and specifications.
- Perform dimensional checks using precision measuring equipment.
- Verify product compliance with customer requirements, internal procedures, and relevant standards.
- Use of Measuring Instruments
- Operate and interpret readings from measuring equipment such as Vernier calipers, Micrometers, Height gauges, etc.
- Ensure measuring tools are calibrated and used correctly.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Complete inspection reports and quality check sheets accurately.
- Record and report all non-conformances and deviations.
- Maintain traceability records where required.
- Assist with compiling quality documentation packs for clients.
- Non-Conformance Control
- Identify and isolate non-conforming products.
- Raise NCRs and assist with corrective actions.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Standards, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure work complies with ISO standards.
- Assist with improving inspection processes and production quality.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with production teams, welders, fitters, machinists, and supervisors.
- Provide feedback to production on quality issues and prevention measures.
- Liaise with engineering and management regarding quality requirements.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
Matric (Grade 12) essential. Relevant qualification in Quality Control, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing advantageous. Minimum 2-5 years’ experience as a Quality Inspector in an engineering/manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings required.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Team player with the ability to work independently.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Excel, reporting).
Advantageous (Not Compulsory)
- ISO 9001 knowledge and quality system exposure.
- Experience with welding inspection (visual inspection).
- NDT knowledge beneficial.
- Knowledge of pressure equipment standards if applicable.
- Experience in engineering sectors such as pressure vessels, piping, mining equipment, etc.
Working Conditions:
Factory/Workshop environment. PPE compliance required. May require overtime, weekend work, or shift work depending on production needs.
