Job Description

Patient care / Nursing Practice patient care according to the SANC Registered Nurse scope of practice and assume total responsibility for these activities with the necessary clinical knowledge and skill. Monitor and perform nursing care with a holistic approach meeting all individual patients needs as per the nursing care plan, applying the nursing care plan according to the patients health needs. Monitor, oversee and assist (as needed) patient personal hygiene and care delivered by the care givers / workers. Monitor the treatment plan (including medication administration, wound care and rehabilitation) in accordance with doctors prescriptions and requests ensuring medication required is available. Discuss medication requirements with patient and family and ensure availability. Monitor patients risks with implementation of effective risk prevention and management. Participate in the facilitys policies, protocols and processes whilst contributing to quality improvement. Attend / participate in handover of nursing report at shift commencement. Perform frequent patient/bedside visits and establish effective communication with patients regarding pain management, holistic nursing care and progress. Participate in the holistic wellness, rehabilitation and care of all patients to optimize wellbeing and promoting health. Communicate rehab plan and monitor progress and health status together with nursing manager and rehabilitation practitioners. Communicate any need for extension of stay with the nursing manager, respective multi-disciplinary team member / practitioner and case management. Practice the principles of infection prevention and control, implementing standard and additional precautions according to the department of health and international standards, including the application of Best Care Always principles. Comply to all national regulations and laws as well as policies, procedures and processes of the facility. Practice good customer service principles, including the prevention / elimination of possible complaints, report any such complaints from patients and/or family to the nursing services manager. Carry out all facility duties as assigned. Provide continuous evidence-based nursing care. Administer/use and store medication in accordance to facility procedures, pharmaceutical and nursing regulations. Always maintain patient confidentiality and manage patient information according to the POPIA act. Attend and participate in the facilitys training program. Administration Ensure to comply with the annual SANC registration and indemnity requirements. Comply and oversee patient acuity and nursing skill mix to ensure appropriate level of care. Comply with company documentation and related policies. On-going updating of health records to ensure compliance with holistic care, monitoring and preventing complications. Ensure all stock and medication are well controlled and managed, charged, and credited appropriately. Adhere to the facility policies and procedures. Risk management Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment, free from medico-legal hazards and infection risks. Adhere to the facilitys emergency procedures, emergency trolley, basic life support, oxygen therapy and availability of such requirements. Adhere to infection prevention, management, elimination and medical waste management principles. Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the health and safety regulations, attend health and safety training. Report and act upon potential/actual risks identified as per the facility risk register. Supervise to ensure correct use of cleaning chemicals and cleaning protocols including storage of cleaning equipment. Report equipment and environmental repairs and/or replacement as needed. Learning & Development Assume responsibilities for own personal and professional development, including SANC Continual Professional Development and CPD activities. Maintain BLS competence. Keep up to date with facility policies and procedures. Supervise and couch care givers / workers. Report any / all non-compliance to the nursing services manager. Facilitate and participate in a learning environment. Keep abreast of current nursing standards and changes. Leadership Brand Partake in contribution to positive changes for work processes. Comply with professional behaviour and standards. Work strategically to obtain and maintain organisational, business and healthcare goals whilst optimizing productivity in the workplace. Set and maintain nursing and industry related standards of quality and safety Uphold professional and work ethics, values and demonstrate integrity.
