Duties:
Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant (CA(SA)) will focus on IFRS 17 accounting and play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance. Key responsibilities include:

• Post journals, perform reconciliations, and review financial results to ensure accuracy and compliance with IFRS 17.
• Maintain precise financial records and process transactions in line with IFRS 17 standards.
• Prepare and present financial reports and disclosures, clearly communicating impacts to management and stakeholders.
• Analyse financial data to support business decisions and ensure alignment with underlying records.
• Collaborate with actuaries, IT, underwriters, and auditors to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
• Calculate and maintain reserves for life insurance policies and respond to audit queries.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and provide guidance on IFRS 17 matters to internal teams.
• Support the Financial Manager in managing accounting operations and ensuring overall financial integrity.

Job Experience & Skills Required:
Qualifications:

• Matric (Grade 12)
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• Honours degree (preferred)
• Chartered Accountant designation (CA(SA)) with 3–5 years post-articles experience
• Knowledge of IFRS 17

Experience:

• Current or previous experience in the life insurance industry, specifically with IFRS 17 requirements, is essential
• Proven track record in month-end processes and preparation of annual financial statements
• Experience in the insurance industry will be preferred
• Exposure to or experience in company tax calculations, particularly within the life insurance context, is advantageous

 Skills & Competencies:

• Thorough understanding of IFRS 17 principles and their application to life insurance financial reporting
• Proficiency in financial software, especially systems that support IFRS 17 calculations and reporting
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data under IFRS 17
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in reconciling data to IFRS 17 standards
• Effective communication skills to explain IFRS 17 concepts and implications to stakeholders
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on complex financial projects
• Ability to adapt to changing regulations and standards within the insurance industry
