About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering and maintenance team in ensuring optimal plant performance in our Johannesburg-based paper and packaging industry facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, managing capital projects, and overseeing maintenance budgets to minimize downtime and improve output.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the engineering and maintenance team
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (lean manufacturing, cost reduction, efficiency improvements)
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards
- Manage capital projects, including equipment upgrades, installations, and commissioning
- Oversee maintenance budgets, resource allocation, and contractor management
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to minimize downtime and improve output
- Implement asset management systems and best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- GCC (Government Certificate of Competency) advantageous
- Minimum 8 years experience in a manufacturing environment (paper, pulp, or packaging preferred)
- At least 35 years in a management role
- Strong knowledge of plant maintenance, reliability engineering, and asset management systems
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
