Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead and implement Health, Safety, Environmental, and Social (HSES) standards on a large-scale renewable energy project. The ideal candidate must hold a valid SACPCMP registration as a Construction
Health and Safety Manager (CHSM) and have a strong track record managing HSES functions on high-risk engineering projects. This role requires a proactive leader with deep knowledge of local legislation, international standards, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all on-site HSES functions for the project.
Ensure compliance with South African HSE regulations and international standards (IFC, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific HSES plans, procedures, and risk assessments.
Monitor, enforce, and continuously improve safety protocols.
Identify risks and implement mitigation measures proactively.
Provide training, toolbox talks, coaching, and ongoing support to site teams.
Conduct regular safety audits, site inspections, and incident investigations.
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure a safe work environment.
Prepare and present HSES performance reports, incident analyses, and corrective actions to management.
Minimum Requirements
Relevant academic qualification in HSE or equivalent.
Valid SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM).
NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, or other relevant professional HSE certifications.
Minimum 3 years experience as an HSE Manager on high-risk projects (power, photovoltaic, substation, transmission line, or similar).
Proven site-based HSE management experience on engineering or construction projects.
Strong knowledge of South African HSE legislation and site management requirements.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
Strong analytical and report-writing capabilities.
Experience in multicultural and multidisciplinary project environments.
Additional Requirements
Must be available to work on-site for the full 17-month project duration.
