Job Description

The position will report into the Senior Building Estimator who reports into the Head of the Building Division. Must possess as a minimum a University Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying. Some experience is required but will consider recently qualified candidates who have completed their studies recently. Must be prepared to work from our offices in Gosforth Park Germiston. Must be prepared to travel to site at times with the Senior Building Estimator or Head and sleep out on occasion A Junior Building Estimator prepares, reviews, and analyzes cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQs), and tender documents for construction projects. Key requirements typically include site and/or estimating experience. Estimating & Tendering: Prepare accurate cost estimates, including labor, materials, and equipment, and assist with tender submissions. BOQ Preparation: Generate Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and tender analyses. Subcontractor Liaison: Assist in sending inquiries to subcontractors and suppliers, evaluating quotations, and analyzing subcontractor agreements. Data Analysis: Interpret architectural drawings and technical specifications to build up elemental cost estimates. Reporting: Support senior estimators by tracking project budgets, profitability, and reporting on commercial forecasts. Site Visits: Occasional site visits to assess project conditions. Requirements & Qualifications Education: BTech/Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering. Software Skills: MS Office Suite (advanced Excel). Technical Skills: Strong understanding of construction methods, material pricing, and reading construction drawings. Attributes: Analytical, deadline-driven, meticulous attention to detail, and good negotiation skills.
