Job Description
A leading global logistics and supply chain solutions provider is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and grow its Contract Logistics operations in South Africa.
This role is ideal for a commercially strong logistics leader who thrives in operational excellence, team development, and business growth.
Role Purpose
You will be responsible for the full operational and financial performance of allocated logistics sites, including warehouse operations, administrative functions, systems, and customer service. The role also focuses on business development, strategic planning, and team leadership to drive long-term growth and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Performance Management

Lead overall site performance across warehouse, office, and systems operations

Plan, organise, and control daily warehouse and administrative activities
-
Ensure achievement of targets related to cost, productivity, service, and profitability

Oversee the implementation and optimisation of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
-
Maintain compliance with operational procedures, safety, and regulatory standards
Leadership & People Development
-
Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing logistics teams
-
Oversee recruitment, staffing levels, performance management, and employee engagement
-
Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
Business Growth & Strategy
-
Develop and grow profitable contract logistics operations
-
Support regional leadership with strategic planning and performance objectives

Identify and develop new warehousing and distribution opportunities
-
Build and maintain strong key customer relationships
-
Contribute to and manage budgets, forecasts, and full P&L accountability
Supply Chain & Cost Optimisation

Develop supplier management strategies and negotiate favourable contracts

Monitor supplier performance and ensure compliance
-
Analyse operational and supplier costs to identify savings opportunities

Approve and oversee procurement related to logistics operations
Continuous Improvement & Quality

Lead structured quality improvement initiatives

Drive operational efficiency projects across facilities

Establish systems to manage facilities, equipment, inventory, and people safely and profitably
Minimum Requirements
-
Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field

Minimum 5 years management experience in Contract Logistics

Strong financial and commercial acumen at management level

Proven experience managing logistics or warehousing projects

Solid understanding of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)

Strong stakeholder engagement and customer relationship management skills

Ability to influence, collaborate, and drive alignment across multiple teams
-
Willingness to travel as required
