About the Opportunity
On behalf of our Client, we are recruiting of a well-established road freight and logistics company for a detail-oriented and reliable Payroll Assistant.
This role is suited to a candidate with strong administrative and payroll support experience, particularly within a high-volume, weekly payroll environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timeous processing of payroll, while liaising with relevant industry bodies and internal stakeholders.
Purpose of the Role
The Payroll Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Payroll Manager in the efficient administration and processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Administration & Processing
- Assist with the weekly payroll process to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Verify wages timecards and overtime calculations on relevant systems
- Assist with payroll reports and reconciliations (weekly and monthly)
- Support preparation of payroll submissions where required
- NBCRFLI & Compliance Administration
- Manage employee annual leave and sick leave applications with the NBCRFLI
- Submit AWOL applications
- Assist with sick bonus, year-end bonus, and leave applications
- Handle D-form submissions and provident fund administration
- Respond to queries from the National Bargaining Council
- Employee Data & Systems Management
- Load new employees and process terminations on payroll systems
- Maintain accurate employee records on payroll systems (e.g. SAGE VIP, ERS)
- Manage employee leave records and updates on systems
- Ensure all payroll-related data is accurate and up to date
- Deductions & Reconciliations
- Manage garnishee deductions and ensure accurate processing
- Perform monthly reconciliations of garnishees
- Ensure timeous payments to relevant third parties
- Operational Support
- Assist with labour broker payroll submissions where required
- Support payroll-related queries from employees and management
- Ensure compliance with internal payroll procedures and controls
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Diploma in Payroll Management (advantageous)
- Previous payroll experience within road freight, logistics, or transport
- Experience working on SAGE VIP Payroll
- ERS Biometric system experience
- Strong payroll administration and reconciliation skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines

- Willingness to travel when required
