Relationship Manager: Special Division | Sandton | Permanent This role sits at the intersection of underwriting expertise and long-term partner value. It offers the opportunity to shape portfolio performance while working closely with specialist insurance partners. The Relationship Manager: Special Division is responsible for managing, growing, and optimising UMA and partner portfolios within a specialist insurance environment. The role focuses on profitability, risk discipline, and sustainable growth through strong stakeholder engagement and data-driven portfolio oversight. Working closely with internal underwriting, claims, finance, and executive leadership, this role plays a critical part in maintaining underwriting standards, identifying trends, and proactively addressing performance challenges across allocated portfolios. Our client is a well-established South African short-term insurer operating across both traditional and specialist insurance lines. What You’ll Do Manage and grow allocated UMA and partner portfolios with a strong focus on profitability and retention Build and maintain effective working relationships with partners and their teams Analyse monthly portfolio performance, identify trends, and implement corrective actions Conduct process audits across allocated UMA portfolios Prepare and deliver monthly reports to divisional leadership and quarterly reports for executive review Support partners with underwriting and claims-related queries when required Ensure underwriting compliance, including facultative reinsurance where applicable Collaborate with internal claims and finance teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting What You Bring FAIS compliance Minimum of 10 years’ commercial insurance experience Strong underwriting background, ideally within specialist insurance lines such as marine, engineering, aviation, or similar Financial literacy with the ability to interpret portfolio and financial reports Advanced Excel proficiency Strong analytical, communication, and relationship management capability What Success Looks Like Profitable, well-managed partner portfolios with clear performance visibility Trusted relationships with UMA partners and internal stakeholders Early identification and resolution of portfolio risks Consistent adherence to underwriting standards and reporting requirements
