Job Description
Hire Resolve’s client is seeking a highly experienced Roads and Earthworks Estimator to join their team in Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating, planning, and executing large-scale road and earthwork projects. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately prepare cost estimates for roads and earthworks projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Develop comprehensive bid proposals and tender submissions, ensuring all client requirements and specifications are met.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis and value engineering to optimize project budgets and improve profitability.
- Review project plans, specifications, and other technical documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and propose mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and ensure accurate and complete estimates.
- Develop project schedules and timelines, ensuring alignment with cost estimates and project goals.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of all estimates, bids, and related documentation.
- Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and project managers to clarify project requirements and provide updates on estimates and bids.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and advancements in estimating techniques to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the estimation process.
Requirements:
- Approximately 10 years of experience in estimating roads and earthworks projects.
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- In-depth understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards for roads and earthworks.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and build effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, ASPE) are a plus.
