About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Fund Accountant to join our client in the Administration Industry in Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in investment fund accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to lead a team effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of our investment funds, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions, and adherence to accounting principles and guidelines.
- Prepare and review financial statements, including management reports, fund valuations, and investor reporting.
- Reconcile cash and investment balances, ensuring accuracy and proper recording in the general ledger.
- Coordinate and manage the year-end audit process, liaising with external auditors and fund administrators.
- Perform detailed analysis of investment portfolios and prepare portfolio performance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, including statutory reporting, tax filings, and investment restrictions.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes, ensuring ongoing adherence to best practices and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams, such as legal and compliance, to ensure adherence to investment guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy in fund accounting operations.
- Train and mentor junior staff, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
- Monitor the performance and productivity of the fund accounting team, ensuring high-quality service delivery and timely completion of tasks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CA (SA).
- Significant experience (5+ years) in investment fund accounting, preferably within the Administration Industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, with expertise in fund accounting and financial reporting.
- Sound understanding of regulatory requirements, including IFRS, GAAP, and relevant industry guidelines.
- Proficient in using fund accounting systems and software, including experience with investment performance measurement tools.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify trends or anomalies.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with accounting software.
