The successful candidate will lead a small actuarial team and work closely with the Head of the Actuarial Department, as well as other actuarial functions including Valuations, SAM, IFRS 17, and Budgeting. Duties: Lead initiatives to improve actuarial processes and drive operational efficiency Collaborate across actuarial teams to streamline workflows and enhance automation Design, develop, and implement automated solutions for: Valuations, Embedded Value (EV), Value of New Business (VNB), and Analysis of Change in EV across multiple entities Experience investigations and assumption setting Data management and ETL processes Oversee non-insurance reporting within the department Support budgeting and forecasting processes Identify and implement software and systems enhancements Assist with once-off and strategic special projects Mentor, train, and develop junior actuarial team members Job Experience & Skills Required: Qualifications: Matric (Grade 12) BSc Actuarial Science / Mathematical Statistics Honours in Actuarial Science / Mathematical Statistics Fellow of ASSA (FASSA) Fully Qualified Actuary Experience: Qualified Actuary with 6 years experience, including at least 2 years post-qualification, within the insurance industry Proven leadership experience managing actuarial or analytical teams Advanced proficiency in Excel and actuarial modelling software (e.g. Prophet, Basys) Experience with QlikView, SQL, or similar data tools will be advantageous Ability to translate complex actuarial concepts into clear, actionable business insights Exposure to automation tools or cloud-based platforms (e.g. Python, Power BI, Azure) is beneficial Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines Skills & Competencies: Advanced actuarial expertise (IFRS 17, SAM, EV, VNB) Actuarial modelling & systems proficiency (Excel, Prophet, Basys) Process improvement & automation capability Strong data analysis & reconciliation skills Leadership, mentoring & people management Strategic & commercial thinking Project management & delivery under pressure Professional judgement, integrity & governance compliance If you have not had any response in two weeks, please consider the vacancy application unsuccessful.
