About the Role
Dante Group Ltd is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team in Midrand. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and ensuring that production methods are cost-effective while considering sustainability trends. You will work closely with various teams to ensure estimates align with customer requirements and production capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret customer briefs, artwork, and technical specifications for printing and packaging jobs
- Attend Technical Review meetings when required to understand the customer brief on new projects
- Prepare accurate cost estimates covering materials, substrates, inks, coatings, dies, plates, finishing, labour, and any other associated costs
- Review and approve cost estimates generated by the Internal/External Sales Team in line with the standards set out by Management
- Determine the most cost-effective production methods, considering machine capacities, run times, and setup costs aligned with the current market and sustainability trends where applicable
- Liaise with the Buyer, suppliers, and vendors to obtain pricing for raw materials, outsourced processes, and packaging components
- Collaborate with the Sales, Design, and Production Teams to ensure estimates align with customer requirements and production capabilities
- Prepare and issue formal quotations and tender documents within required timeframes with approval from Management where applicable
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through efficient material usage and production optimization
- Create, maintain, and update cost databases, supplier price lists, and production rates
- Review all completed jobs to ensure actual material and production costs are against estimates
- Identify development areas within the Estimating function and conduct training with the Team
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Printing Technology, Packaging Technology, Production Management, or a related field
- Proven experience as an Estimator in the printing, packaging, or manufacturing environment
- Experience with various label types and flexible packaging products
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and cost implications in packaging production
- Strong knowledge of printing processes (e.g., flexographic, lithographic, digital, or gravure) and finishing processes
- Proficient with MS Excel
