About the Role

The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing health & safety systems to ensure a zero-harm environment in our mining operation. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) Regulations and experience in leading safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the mine’s Safety Management System (SMS)
• Ensure compliance with MHSA Codes of Practice (COPs)
• Prepare for DMRE inspections and external audits
• Conduct internal safety audits and continuous risk assessments
• Implement controls and monitor effectiveness
• Investigate accidents, near-misses, and dangerous occurrences
• Compile reports in line with MHSA requirements
• Develop safety training programs and conduct toolbox talks and inductions
• Promote a strong safety culture across the mine
• Ensure contractors comply with mine safety standards
• Monitor workforce compliance with PPE and procedures
• Conduct emergency response drills (fire, evacuation, etc.)
• Coordinate with rescue teams

Requirements

• Degree/Diploma in Safety Management or Mining Engineering (advantage)
• COMSOC 1 & 2 (or equivalent) certification
• At least 5 years of experience in mining safety
• At least 3 years in a supervisory/management role
• SAMTRAC ISO 45001 knowledge (advantage)
• Blasting certificate (optional, depending on mine)
