About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Utilities Engineer to join our dynamic team in Port Elizabeth. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining all plant utilities, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and driving continuous improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain all plant utilities including boilers, compressed air systems, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, water treatment systems, and electrical distribution
- Oversee and maintain ammonia refrigeration plants, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations
- Monitor utility consumption (electricity, water, steam, gas) and implement cost-saving and energy efficiency initiatives
- Lead preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to ensure maximum uptime
- Troubleshoot breakdowns and provide technical support to maintenance teams
- Ensure statutory inspections and compliance with OHS Act and environmental legislation
- Drive continuous improvement projects and utility system optimization
- Manage contractors and service providers related to utilities infrastructure
Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech / National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in utilities engineering within a manufacturing or FMCG environment
- Proven experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems (essential)
- Strong knowledge of boilers, compressors, and energy management systems
- Understanding of pressure vessels and refrigeration safety standards
Qualifications
- GCC (Factories) advantageous
