Pretoria East: Mechanical design engineer posted by Network Finance

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our advanced defence engineering team. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development and testing of next-generation military vehicle platforms, including armoured systems, mobility solutions, structural components and mission-critical subsystems.
This role requires a strong engineering foundation, exceptional analytical capability, and a passion for innovative mechanical design within a high-performance defence environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, model and analyse mechanical systems and components for military vehicles.
• Develop 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Conduct structural, thermal and dynamic analyses to ensure system integrity and reliability.
• Support prototype development, testing and validation of vehicle subsystems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, electronics, survivability and manufacturing.
• Ensure compliance with defence standards, safety regulations and quality requirements.
• Participate in design reviews and provide engineering justification for design decisions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, graduating with high academic distinction (e.g., first-class honours, distinction, or GPA equivalent).
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, NX).
• Experience with FEA/CAE tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar) is highly desirable.
• Solid knowledge of materials engineering, structural analysis, vehicle dynamics and mechanical systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a high-accuracy, safety-critical environment.
• Strong communication and technical documentation abilities.
