Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Operational Accountant to join our team in Pretoria East. This role requires robust financial accounting fundamentals (full financial function) and proven experience within a “hardcore” mining, engineering, or manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will drive informed operational decision-making by providing accurate financial data and insightful analysis. Key Responsibilities: Full financial function Financial reporting & variance analysis Operational partnership & efficiency tracking Cost & inventory control Budgeting & forecasting Compliance & internal controls Audit coordination & general ledger integrity Job Experience and Skills Required: Education: BCom Accounting and completed articles (preferred). A leading player in the Mining/Engineering/Manufacturing space is seeking a technically strong Operational Accountant . This role is ideal for someone with a completed BCom who enjoys both financial fundamentals and operational exposure. Youll work closely with production, operations, and finance teams to ensure accurate reporting, clean reconciliations, and meaningful financial insights that support business performance. This opportunity is perfect for an Accountant who enjoys being connected to the heartbeat of operations while maintaining control over key financial processes in a demanding, “hardcore” industrial environment. Key Responsibilities: Full financial function exposure, including GL, reconciliations, trial balance, and reporting Operational finance: Partner with plant/site/production teams for cost and performance insights Controls & Compliance: Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial processing Reporting: Assist with monthly management packs and operational financial analysis Contribution: Support the continuous improvement of financial and operational processes Full financial function exposure & hands-on operational involvement Job Experience and Skills Required: Qualification: BCom & articles (preferred) Experience: 35 years post-articles experience Industry: Mining / Engineering / Manufacturing Technical: Strong recon skills, GL management, and solid operational finance exposure Profile: Detail-oriented, resilient, hands-on, and comfortable working close to operations If youre ready to step into a role where financial discipline meets real operational impact, lets talk.

Job Description

We are seeking a switched-on, detail-oriented Operational Accountant to manage the full financial function for our robust operations in the Mining, Engineering, and Manufacturing sectors. This isn’t just about crunching numbers from a distance; you’ll be on the ground, connecting the financials directly to the operational heartbeat of the business. Key Responsibilities: Manage the full financial function , including GL, AP, AR, and bank reconciliations. Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and financial reports. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and detailed variance analysis to monitor operational performance. Ensure rigorous financial controls and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Collaborate closely with the production and engineering teams to bridge the gap between finance and operations. Job Experience and Skills Required: Education: A BCom Degree is essential, and completed articles are highly preferred. Experience: 3 to 5 years of post-articles experience, ideally within the Mining, Engineering, or Manufacturing industries. Proven experience in a role encompassing the full financial function. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in relevant accounting software and MS Excel. A pragmatic, proactive approach and the ability to work independently in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Skills / Technical Competencies: Full financial function management, financial reporting (IFRS/GAAP), GL management, complex reconciliations, budgeting & forecasting, and costing methods. Understanding of industry-specific cost drivers, bridging finance/operations gap, internal controls, data analysis & interpretation for operational insights. Advanced MS Excel, experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP and Sage Pastel), and familiarity with BI tools (Power BI a plus). Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional with a passion for operational excellence in a fast-paced mining environment? Our client, a leading mining company based in Pretoria, is seeking an experienced Operational Accountant to join their dynamic finance team. Key Responsibilities: Financial Reporting: Prepare, analyze, and present accurate and timely monthly management reports and financial statements. Shared Services Exposure: Collaborate with group shared services to ensure efficient processing of transactions and compliance with company policies. Treasury Management: Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and short-term funding to support operational and capital requirements. Cost Accounting: Monitor and analyze production costs, identify variances, and provide insights to enhance operational efficiency. Inventory Management: Oversee inventory accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with ERP system data. Skills and Qualifications: Bcom Accounting degree Articles would be preferred 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role Mining, manufacturing, construction, types of industry exposure MS Office and Excel is essential for the role Apply now!
