Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist customers with payment-related queries and provide accurate information where required.
- Ensure a positive customer experience by maintaining a helpful and approachable attitude.
Cash Handling and Payments:
- Process cash, card, and electronic payments accurately.
- Issue receipts and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
- Balance cash register at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Report any cash shortages, overages, or payment discrepancies to the supervisor immediately.
Point of Sale Operations:
- Operate the point-of-sale system efficiently and accurately.
- Ensure all items, meals, beverages, or services are correctly captured before payment is processed.
- Maintain knowledge of current menu items, prices, promotions, and hospitality service offerings.
Stock and Order Support:
- Assist with checking customer orders against bills where required.
- Communicate with waiters, kitchen staff, and supervisors to resolve order or billing issues.
- Assist with basic stock control duties when required, including monitoring till-area supplies.
Hygiene and Workplace Standards:
- Keep the cashier station clean, organised, and presentable at all times.
- Comply with workplace hygiene, food safety, and housekeeping standards.
- Follow company procedures relating to health, safety, and customer service.
Administration and Reporting:
- Complete daily cash-up reports and submit all required documentation to the relevant supervisor.
- Ensure all invoices, slips, and receipts are correctly filed or handed in according to company procedure.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling customer and company information.
Teamwork and Communication:
- Work closely with waiters, kitchen staff, management, and other team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and colleagues.
- Assist with additional duties as required by management.
Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Previous cashier experience within the hospitality, restaurant, hotel, retail, or customer service environment will be advantageous.
- Experience using a point-of-sale system will be advantageous.
- Good numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays where required.
