Job Summary

Requirements: 5 years in the financial services industry. 2 years in portfolio management. Exposure to working within boutique wealth management or niche markets would be an advantage. Commerce or similar degree. Preferentially a post graduate qualification. Other relevant education or courses. Knowledge of the Financial Services Industry and in particular the advice and investment management sectors. Understanding of FAIS, FICA and other appropriate legislation. An understanding of and experience in: Asset Allocation (Strategic and Tactical), Equity research and portfolio management, Fixed income analysis, Cashflow management and corporate actions, Global and local investments. Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint essential), xPlan and a specific share portfolio system would be an advantage. Excellent marketing and client acquisition (sales) skills and experience. Competencies: Solid business acumen; ability to innovate, build and enhance business models. Experience in financial modelling and quantitative analysis. Excellent presentation and communication skills (written & verbal). High-energy, customer-centric, and relationship-focused. Ethical conduct and meticulous attention to detail. Self-motivated with strong organizational and prioritization skills. Team collaborator with leadership ability. Strategic thinker who challenges norms. Strong local and global research, data interpretation, and analytical skills. Professional image and conduct as a company representative. Responsibilities and expectations but not limited to: Marketing, Client Acquisition and Mandates: The PM must prepare material and be involved in face-to-face client introductory meetings and pitches. Ensure that the portfolio recommendation complies with the FAIS Act and other regulatory requirements and ensure that the investment strategy is consistent with the advice dispensed. Ensure that the Portfolio Mandate is completed correctly and that the account set-up is created in alignment with the mandate and advice dispensed. Contribute to any Business Development initiatives that the business undertakes to attract new clients. Business Development and Research: Conduct company, sector, thematic or associated research to contribute to the teams overall research efforts. Analyse industry dynamics, competitive advantage and the sustainability thereof. Inject new ideas and obtain buy-in from Investment team and portfolio managers. Direct stock selection and portfolio construction / modelling. Management of portfolios on behalf of the business. Portfolio Implementation, Portfolio Management: Ensure that new portfolios are implemented in accordance with the mandate, strategy and client specific requirements. Manage client portfolios according to the agreed investment strategy. Maintain oversight of the dealing process to ensure that trades are completed in accordance with the instructions directed. Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure portfolio compliance to mandates, regulatory limits and business restrictions. Ensure oversight of trade execution for any trade risk management. Ensure portfolio risk variances are maintained within approved limits. Client Engagement and Administration: Engage formally on annual reviews of client portfolios. Perform ad-hoc reviews and or regular engagements with clients as per defined client requirements. Ensure oversight of client portfolio administration is accurate across corporate actions, trade execution, tax and reporting.
