About the Role
The Senior Human Resources Manager provides strategic leadership for all people-related functions within a manganese mining environment, ensuring workforce compliance, safety, skills development, productivity, and alignment with operational and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Align HR strategy with production forecasts, labour demand, expansions, and shutdowns. Lead organisational design, workforce and succession planning, fatigue management, and use HR analytics to track absenteeism, contractor usage, safety, SLP commitments, and workforce stability.
- Manage union relationships, wage negotiations, disputes, and strike mitigation. Maintain sound industrial relations for remote mining operations and ensure compliance with MHSA, BCEA, LRA, EE Act, SDA, OHSA, and SLP obligations.
- Develop strategies to attract and retain scarce mining talent, including technical and artisan roles. Support learnerships, apprenticeships, graduate programmes, and community training aligned with MQA, Skills Development, and SLP commitments.
- Oversee HR policies, roster rules, remote site accommodation, expatriate policies, compensation, allowances, housing, camp management, payroll compliance, labour budgets, and financial risk reporting.
- Promote a safety-first culture through HR-HSE integration. Manage discipline, grievances, hearings, diversity, EE, Mining Charter transformation, and employee wellness, including fatigue, heat stress, and psychosocial support.
- Lead HR compliance reporting for SLP, LED, EE, and local employment. Engage communities on local hiring, training, and bursaries, drive ESG-aligned people initiatives, and represent the mine at industry and labour forums.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, Labour Law, or related field
- Minimum of 8–10 years progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years at a senior level in mining or heavy industrial sector (manganese or other mineral commodities)
- Knowledge of MPRDA, MHSA, Mining Charter, SLP, and mining labour and community employment regulations (mandatory)
