Job Description
At The President Hotel, our kitchens play a vital role in delivering memorable guest experiences. As we continue our journey toward luxury, we are looking for a dedicated and detail-driven Commis Chef to join our professional culinary team. This role is ideal for a chef who takes pride in precision, consistency, and high standards within a luxury hotel environment.
As a Commis Chef, you will take ownership of your assigned kitchen section, working closely with the Chef de Partie to ensure smooth operations from mise en place through to service. You will contribute to dishes that reflect refinement, discipline, and uncompromising quality, in line with five-star hospitality expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Section Operations & Food Quality
- Take responsibility for daily preparation and service within your allocated section
- Deliver consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, and flavour
- Prepare accurate mise en place and maintain control during busy service periods
- Ensure dishes leave the pass on time and to specification
Planning, Organisation & Stock Control
- Plan daily tasks to ensure efficient section workflow
- Communicate clearly with other kitchen sections and senior chefs
- Monitor stock levels, minimise waste, and ensure correct storage and rotation
- Maintain equipment, tools, and workstations in excellent condition
Hygiene & Food Safety
- Uphold HACCP standards and all hotel food safety policies
- Maintain a clean, organised, and disciplined work area at all times
- Ensure correct labelling, dating, and storage of ingredients
- Take ownership of cleanliness before, during, and after service
Teamwork & Professional Conduct
- Work collaboratively within the kitchen brigade
- Support and guide junior team members and trainees when required
- Lead by example with professionalism, discipline, and pride in your work
- Communicate effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Minimum Requirements
- Formal culinary qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent)
- Minimum2 years’ experience in a fine-dining restaurant or luxury hotel kitchen
- Strong understanding of cooking techniques, food presentation, and kitchen operations
- Solid knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
