About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and passionate Commi Chef to join our high-performing culinary team at The President Hotel. As a key member of our kitchen brigade, you will be responsible for supporting kitchen operations, maintaining quality and standards, and learning and developing your skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with food preparation and basic cooking tasks across different sections
- Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards
- Ensure mise en place is prepared and maintained for service
- Support senior chefs during busy service periods
- Ensure all food is prepared to the required quality and consistency
- Follow kitchen procedures, hygiene standards and safety regulations
- Keep workstations clean, organised and ready for service
- Assist with stock rotation and minimise waste
- Gain exposure to different kitchen sections and techniques
- Learn from senior chefs and develop culinary skills
- Take initiative in improving speed, accuracy and knowledge
- Show willingness to grow within the kitchen brigade
- Support colleagues to ensure smooth and efficient service
- Communicate effectively with team members during prep and service
- Maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Requirements
- Matric and Culinary qualification
- Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience in a professional kitchen environment
- Experience within a hotel, restaurant or high-volume kitchen preferred
- Basic knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations
- Understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP standards
- Ability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
- Well-presented with a professional and disciplined approach
- South African ID or valid work permit
