Job Description
An international manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Operations Director to lead its Kenya manufacturing facility.
This role forms part of the global Operations Leadership Team and is responsible for driving performance across People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost, while aligning with global operational and supply strategies.
The Operations Director will take full accountability for the sites performance, ensuring operational excellence through a focus on zero harm, zero defects, and zero waste, while maintaining consistent supply to commercial markets. The role will also contribute to the development and execution of the global operations strategy.
Key Requirements
- Degree in Science, Engineering, or Business (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing leadership
- Strong background in operations, quality, and supply chain
- Proven experience managing P&L
- Solid knowledge of GMP, regulatory compliance, and HSE
- Experience with regulatory inspections (FDA, EMA, etc.)
- Demonstrated change management and continuous improvement experience
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Strategy
- Translate global strategy into a robust, executable site plan
- Define and communicate a clear long-term vision for the site
- Build a high-performance, accountable culture
- Represent the site within the global operations network
Safety, Health & Environment
- Drive a strong safety culture with clear standards and accountability
- Ensure full compliance with all HSE regulations and internal policies
- Lead safety governance, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements
- Maintain audit readiness and lead inspection outcomes
- Oversee quality systems including CAPAs, deviations, and change control
- Support product transfers and process improvements
Manufacturing & Operations
- Own delivery of site KPIs across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People
- Drive operational efficiency, productivity, and reliability
- Lead daily operations, escalation processes, and crisis management
Supply Chain & Logistics
- Oversee procurement, planning, warehousing, and distribution
- Ensure availability of materials and finished goods
- Improve supplier performance and inventory management
Engineering & Maintenance
- Ensure facilities and equipment meet operational and compliance standards
- Drive preventative maintenance and reliability programmes
Operational Excellence
- Lead continuous improvement and cost optimisation initiatives
- Embed structured problem-solving and waste reduction practices
Projects & CAPEX
- Manage site CAPEX portfolio, ensuring delivery on time and within budget
- Support new product introductions and technology transfers
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the leadership team
- Drive performance management, engagement, and succession planning
Governance & Risk
- Ensure strong financial discipline and governance
- Lead risk management and business continuity planning
