About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Sommelier to join our 5* Game Lodge in Pilanesberg, where you will be responsible for managing the wine program, curating the wine list, and providing expert service to guests. With a passion for hospitality and a deep knowledge of wine, spirits, and cigars, you will play a key role in enhancing the dining experience for our discerning guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Guiding guests through wine selections
- Suggesting pairings
- Providing information on grape varieties and wine regions
- Curating and regularly updating the restaurant’s wine list
- Managing pricing and supplier relationships
- Overseeing the storage, rotation, and inventory of wine
- Educating service staff on wine knowledge and proper serving etiquette
- Decanting wine and managing glassware and tools
- Keeping up with industry trends
Requirements
- WSET Level 2 / 3 or higher
- Formal Sommeliers certification
- At least 1-5 years of experience in high-end, luxury, or fine-dining environments
- Expert knowledge of wine, spirits, and cigars (with a strong grasp of regional specialties)
- Mastery of wine service, including proper opening, decanting, and glass selection
- Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with guests and recommending pairings
- Ability to up-sell and maximize beverage revenue
